St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa inaugurated its New Academic Year 2017-18 at the hands of His Grace, Archbishop of Goa & Daman and Patriarch of the East Indies, Most Rev. Filip Neri Ferrao with a solemn Eucharistic Mass on 16th June 2017 at St. Xavier’s Ark Hall.
In his homily at the Eucharistic Celebration, His Grace wished everyone a fruitful Academic Year 2017-2018 reminding the staff and students that there is no substitute for hard work. The Archbishop called upon them to emulate Saint Mother Teresa and be merciful towards our brethren.
Principal, Dr. Elvis Gonsalves briefed the audience on the outstanding and exemplary performance of the students at the G.B.S.H.S.S. 2017 Exam securing 328 distinctions. The meritorious students were later felicitated at the hands of his Grace.
In his address, His Grace, Archbishop Filip Neri Ferrao urged the students to focus on three areas viz., acquiring knowledge and information, developing all their inherent talents and potentials, thirdly striving to imbibe sound spiritual, human and social values.
Mr. Micheal Lobo, the Guest of Honour earnestly appealed to the students to be socially conscious and work as luminaries of change for the betterment of this country. He also emphasized the need to maintain communal harmony in the present day scenario and maintain the secular fabric of the country and state.
The foundation stone of the Innovation Block was laid at the hands of His Grace
The function was well attended by over 1700 people that included staff parents and students.
